Great Salt Lake Adventure – Bonneville Salt Flats – Adventure Photographer

Last week, I got to head out to Salt Lake City, Utah to visit Justin. We’ve been conquering the long distance game while he’s been there training for his new job with SkyWest Airlines. So it was some much needed and very valued quality time! While I was there, we had some mini adventures and scoped out some of the local scenery in our GMC Yukon rental. I had already been to Bonneville Salt Flats, but I had never seen it as really just a salt lake. haha! Who knew it was just a large body of shallow water in the spring. This is why visiting the same place in different seasons is so fun to me. We also paid the speedway a visit for Justin’s brother.

The next day, we woke up to snow on the ground and some pretty dreary weather. I had wanted to hike to these amazing hot springs, but we quickly realized that it may be kind of miserable in the mud and sleet. I let Justin decide where we should go, and the first place he picked was Red Butte Garden since I’m obsessed with anything that has to do with plants (you can see some of those photos on my Instagram). He clearly knows the way to my heart – insert eye roll. haha! Later, we ventured to Great Salt Lake State Park to check out that damn rock I’ve seen off Interstate 80 and have never been able to get a picture of. Come to find out, it’s literally covered in graffiti – insert second eye roll. The lake was gorgeous though, and we learned a lot about salt lakes and salt production through my wikipedia googling while we were driving. I kept telling Justin that with the weather and green grass I felt like I was in Ireland!

And this post cannot be compete without recognizing our trusty adventure companion – THE YUKON! The rental car agency didn’t have anything left other than this or a mini van. So we enjoyed traipsing around town and nature with this bad boy!

This was my first more adventurous trip since I broke my ankle, and after I left the rental car agency and started driving around unfamiliar downtown Salt Lake City, I got that super excited travel bug feeling in my stomach again. It felt so good to be back doing things I loved! Not to mention getting to share it with Justin!
